2/21/10 Forgotten Coast Chef Sampler
 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Eastern Time
Armory 14th Annual Forgotten Coast Chefs Sampler on Sunday, February 21, 2010, from 6:00-9:00 pm. Chefs from all over the Forgotten Coast area will display their most creative dishes at the historic Fort Coombs Armory located on 4th Street and Avenue D in Apalachicola. Area shopkeepers and local designers give the event an extraordinary touch and add creative flair by decorating each table individually. The tables range from elegant to artistic and funky. Tickets are $50.

3/6/10 28th annual Charity Chili Cook-off on St. George Island. Close to 60 teams from around the Southeast will each be vying for a berth in the International Chili Society's World's Championship Chili Cook-off in October. 5K Red Pepper Run is at 8 a.m. Amateur crock pot chili competition starts at 9:30 a.m. Formal competition begins at 10 a.m. Charity auction begins at 11 a.m. The Miss Chili Pepper and Mister Hot Sauce judging is between noon and 1:30 p.m., with chili judging at 2 p.m. For more info, call 927-2322 ext 7163

City Commons, Port St Joe The Port St. Joe SaltAir Farmers' Market brings fresh seasonal produce from local small farmers and much more to Florida's Forgotten Coast. Throughout the growing season, regionally grown vegetables and fruit, locally harvested Gulf seafood, carefully crafted artisan goods, and educational opportunities highlight the market's. Located in downtown Port St. Joe, the SaltAir Farmers' Market serves as a community gathering place and cultural center where attendees can enjoy arts, workshops, live music, and exhibitions while shopping the market and Reid Avenue's retail district. There is no better place to be on a Saturday Morning. The Market is open the first and third Saturday each month from April through November, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at City Commons. In downtown historic Apalach. All types of antique boats, classic examples of traditional vessels, work boats, fiberglass classics, antique outboard motors and antique cars. The gulf Alliance for Local Arts will hold an art show in conjunction. There will also be a dinner and a lecture at 6:00 p.m. Reservations for the lecture are required. 4/24/10 and 4/25/10.  Forgotten Coast Lighthouse Mini-Challenge.  Participants visit and/or climb each of 4 lighthouses (Cape St. George on St. George Island, Crooked River in Carrabelle, Cape San Blas in Port St. Joe, and St. Marks in St. Marks) over the 2-day period.  They receive a commemorative item at each lighthouse, and a special item if they visit all 4.  There will be special activities at each lighthouse.  Entrance fee: $5.  850-927-2000. 

 

MAY EVENTS:

 

05/01/10, 36rd Annual Blue Crab Festival in Panacea, Wakulla County. Thousands of residents and visitors pour into this coastal community for this fun event. parade, entertainment, fun plus dozens of arts, crafts and food booths. The event draws about 10,000 people. 5/07/10 to 5/17/10, Plein Air Painters.
Nationally acclaimed plein air artists will document the landscapes and the people who inhabit them in a "paint out". Hailing from Maine to California to South Florida, today's plein air artists will paint on location in Apalachicola, Cape San Blas, Indian Pass, Mexico Beach and Port St. Joe.  05/14/2010 - 05/15/2010 Kid's Win Fishing Tournament Port St. Joe Marina. One of Port St. Joe's most anticipated events. Kids from all around come for a day of fun on the water.   6/5/10 Bluewater Outriggers Charity ClassicPort St. Joe Marina Bluewater Outriggers Inshore Offshore Charity Classic is the newest Tournament to hit the Forgotten Coast. This exciting fishing event provides great sport for the serious angler as well as entertainment for the family. The tournament species are king mackerel, spanish mackerel, red snapper and grouper. Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for each species. Family Day activities lead up to weigh in, followed by the awards ceremony. July 4, 2010, Independence Day Celebration in Port St. Joe Port St. Joe Black's Island Pirate Band attacks passing ships in the waters off Frank Pate Park. After fun in the park, party moves to Port St. Joe Marina for fireworks display, live band and party.

July 4, 2010, Independence Day Celebration in Mexico Beach Mexico Beach "Best Blast on the Beach" fireworks display, 5K walk/run, and children's fishing tournament.

 Annual Port St. Joe Scallop Festival The Annual Port St. Joe Scallop Festival celebrates the succulent shellfish for which the area is famous. Arts and crafts, food vendors and entertainment.   8/28/10 13th Annual Kingfish Tournament   Mexico Beach: The 13th Annual Kingfish Tournament is Sponsored by the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association. The tournament will begin at 5:00 am and end at 5:00 pm on August 28th. All times are Central Standard Time. The cost is 150.00 dollars per boat, and you can fish as many people on the boat as you desire. The weigh-in will be on Saturday afternoon from l:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Marquardt?s Marina.
Registration begins at 5:00 pm on Friday but you can pre-register at Marquardt?s Marina in Mexico Beach, Half Hitch Tackle in Port St. Joe, and Blue Water Outrigger in Port St. Joe, Florida.

9/11/10 Beach Blast Sprint Olympic Triathlon & Duathlon - Fall Race  7:00 am - 12:00 pm EST
Veteran's Memorial Park of Beacon Hill, St. Joe Beach Athletes from all over the world travel to St. Joe beach to run, bike, and swim in this USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Well marked courses follow along the beautiful white sand beaches and pine forest of the Gulf Coast. This sprint is organized by certified staff and wonderful volunteers who love the sport.  Downtown Apalachicola Oyster Roast  Apalachicola Bay Chamber will host its annual oyster roast. Enjoy roasted and raw oysters, artichoke and oyster soup, shrimp, crabs and homemade desserts under the stars on Commerce Street. Musical entertainment, great micro-brewery beers and wines, plus some of the freshest seafood in the country will be served. Tickets are available through the Chamber office (850) 653-9419.

 

 Annual Florida Seafood Festival The oldest seafood festival in the state. If you love great seafood, arts and crafts, fine folks and wonderful entertainment all wrapped into a magnificent family atmosphere, then join us at the Seafood Festival. The event will feature quality entertainment and maritime crafts paying tribute to the Apalachicola Bay's commercial fishermen. There is also an oyster shucking contest and oyster eating contest.  Historic Apalachicola Annual Holiday Celebration This Celebration will light up Apalachicola from 4:30-8:00 pm. The streets of downtown will be lined with luminaries and filled with holiday spirit. Merchants will be open late and the sounds of carolers will echo through the streets filling the evening with Christmas spirit. The highlight, of course, will be the big guy himself. Santa arrives via shrimp boat at 4:00 pm at the City Dock on Water Street. Santa will hear children's Christmas wishes and carolers will sing. Join us for an old-fashioned Christmas celebration!
